In 1851 she was living in Edington, Wiltshire with her parents and 2 sisters and 2 brothers. She was 9 years old and a Scholar.

In 1871 she was living at 47 Gloster Lane, Paddington, London at the home of Alfred Beaumont, aged 59 , a Surgeon from Surrey and his wife Elizabeth, aged 48 from Clerkenwell, Middlesex and their son Alfred. Emma was 28 years old, unmarried and a Housemaid. Also living their was Mary Ruther, aged 25, unmarried and a Housemaid from St.George, Wiltshire and Christian Fagg, aged 36, unmarried, a Cook from Sellinge, Kent.

In 1881 she was living at 27 Leinster(?) Square, Paddington, London, the home of Richard Phillips, aged 65, a Surgeon from Tiebech(?), Pembrokeshire and his wife Anna, aged 67 from Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire and their daughter Frances, aged 26 and unmarried, from Pentonville, London. Emma Oram was 38 years old, unmarried and a Housemaid. She now says her birth place was Trowbridge, Wiltshire. There were two other servants living there - John Tracey, aged 24, unmarried the Butler from Bradford, Devon and Susan Grantham, aged 31, unmarried, the Cook from North Waltham, Hampshire. There was also a visitor there on the day of the census, an Elizabeth T. Powell, aged 71, described as a Gentlewoman from New Buckingham, Norfolk.2
